Where Chicago permits come from

The Chicago Department of Buildings publishes every building permit through the city's open-data portal, data.cityofchicago.org (dataset ydr8-5enu), and updates it daily. PermitRadar reads that feed and rebuilds a weekly summary page every Monday; the map on the home page shows the newest rows with a marker per permit. Every field is the city's own: address, permit type, work description, reported cost, ward and the contractor of record. Nothing is estimated.

What the page does not do: it does not join permits to property owners, it does not send alerts, and it is not a live stream. It is a weekly public record summary, rebuilt on Mondays.
